How it works

  1. Enter clock-in and clock-out for one shift (standard or military / 24-hour). Overnight shifts are fine.
  2. Add unpaid break minutes (lunch, etc.). Paid breaks can stay at 0.
  3. Read decimal hours for the day. Tap Add day to build a weekly total, then optionally open the overtime estimate.

What is a time card calculator?

A time card calculator turns the times you punched in and out into hours worked. Most people subtract unpaid lunch, then add days for the week so the timesheet matches what they expect on payday.

This tool does that math in your browser. It does not replace a time clock, HR system, or payroll. Employers still set rounding rules, meal policies, and overtime. Use it to check your own hours or sketch a schedule before you submit a card.

Need a fuller weekly overtime + pay estimate? Use the overtime calculator. Prefer 24-hour entry on this page? Switch to Military / 24h mode above.

Example: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with 30-minute lunch

Clock in at 9:00 AM, clock out at 5:00 PM. Elapsed time is 8 hours. Unpaid lunch is 30 minutes, so paid time is 7.5 hours (7 hours 30 minutes).

  • Elapsed = 8:00
  • Unpaid break = 0:30
  • Hours worked = 7.50 (decimal hours)

Five identical days would total 37.50 hours for the week. Change the numbers in the calculator to match your shifts.

FAQ

How do I calculate hours on a time card?

Subtract clock-in from clock-out for elapsed time, then subtract unpaid break minutes. Example: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch is 7.5 hours.

Does this time card calculator handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If clock-out is earlier than clock-in (for example 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), the tool adds 24 hours so the overnight span counts correctly.

Should I include unpaid lunch or breaks?

Put unpaid minutes in the Break field so they come out of the total. Paid breaks usually stay in—leave break at 0 for those.

What are decimal hours?

Decimal hours express time as a fraction of an hour. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.50 hours. Many payroll systems prefer decimal hours over hours:minutes.

What is the difference between weekly overtime and daily overtime?

Weekly overtime looks at total hours in a workweek (often over 40 under a simplified federal model). Daily overtime looks at hours in a single day (for example over 8 in some states). The optional estimate here and the overtime calculator use weekly overtime only. State rules vary.

Are paid breaks deducted?

No. Leave the unpaid break field at 0 for paid breaks so those minutes stay in your hours. Only enter unpaid lunch or unpaid breaks in the Break field.

Can I add up a whole work week?

Yes. Use Add day for each shift, then read the weekly total. Print or copy the table when you need a record.

Is this employer payroll or compliance software?

No. It is a personal hours helper for planning and double-checking a timesheet—not payroll, time-clock hardware, or wage-and-hour legal advice.

Do my clock times get sent to a server?

No. The math runs in your browser. Optional localStorage may keep your last inputs on your device only.
